The latest law is coming from the home of cricket and warm beer, but its impact will be felt much further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re an MSP operating in\u2014or with links to\u2014the United Kingdom and you\u2019re serving any business that keeps the lights on, moves data, or keeps people alive, then you need to get ahead of the <strong>UK Cyber Security and Resilience Bill (CS&amp;R)<\/strong>,<strong> <\/strong>which is about to come into force. And UK-based data centers are subject to these new rules too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what you need to know\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size cfs-article-heading\" id=\"what-is-the-cyber-security-and-resilience-bill\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600;line-height:1.3\">What Is the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The UK\u2019s Cyber Security and Resilience Bill (CSRB) is part of a national strategy to harden digital infrastructure against malicious forces. This is how the British government positions it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe evolving threat landscape and high-profile cyber attacks targeting essential services, as well as the growing dependency on cloud-based and other digital services, necessitate the inclusion of more entities within the regulatory framework.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And that includes MSPs and third-party IT providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While still in development, the bill is expected to land later in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/mspglobal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pexels-pixabay-60504-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Cyber Security and Resilience Bill\" class=\"wp-image-11915\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mspglobal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pexels-pixabay-60504-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/mspglobal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pexels-pixabay-60504-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/mspglobal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pexels-pixabay-60504-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/mspglobal.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/pexels-pixabay-60504-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re delivering digital or managed services to essential or important UK entities such as hospitals, schools, or government offices, you may be classified as an \u201cassociated service provider.\u201d That means you will have to handle new obligations and additional costs\u2014but it also creates an opportunity for MSPs to differentiate themselves and win new business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size cfs-article-heading\" id=\"who-will-be-affected\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600;line-height:1.3\">Who Will Be Affected?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill builds on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/nis-directive-and-nis-regulations-2018#:~:text=The%20NIS%20Regulations%20provides%20legal,)%20and%20essential%20services%20(transport%2C\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> NIS Regulations (2018)<\/a> and aligns with the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nis-2-directive.com\/#:~:text=NIS%202%20(Directive%20(EU),for%20network%20and%20information%20systems.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"> EU\u2019s NIS2 Directive<\/a>, but it goes further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In-scope sectors include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Healthcare<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Energy and utilities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Transportation and logistics<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cloud services and data infrastructure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Digital communications and broadcasting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you&#8217;re the MSP behind any of these, congratulations\u2014you\u2019re <em>essential<\/em>. Now the government wants to know how well you\u2019re protecting your infrastructure, your supply chain, and your clients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size cfs-article-heading\" id=\"what-are-the-key-requirements\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600;line-height:1.3\">What Are the Key Requirements?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>While the exact legislative text is still being finalized, the overall direction is clear. Expect requirements like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Incident Reporting: Likely within 72 hours of detection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Security-by-Design Practices: Demonstrated during onboarding and procurement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Risk Assessments and Controls: Regular and evidence-based<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supply Chain Accountability: You\u2019ll need to vet <em>your<\/em> vendors too<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enforcement Powers: The UK government is looking to equip regulators with stronger auditing and penalty tools<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The bottom line is that \u201cWe didn\u2019t know\u201d won\u2019t be a defense anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size cfs-article-heading\" id=\"what-should-msps-do-now\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600;line-height:1.3\">What Should MSPs Do Now?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how smart MSPs are getting ready\u2014<em>before<\/em> the new law lands:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Map your exposure<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Which of your clients fall under &#8220;essential&#8221; or &#8220;important&#8221; sectors? What data and services do you handle for them?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Align with NIS2\/NIST\/CIS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use existing frameworks like NIST CSF, ISO 27001, or CIS Controls as your baseline. These are likely to match or exceed the Bill\u2019s final requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Upgrade your incident response plan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll need audit trails, clear escalation paths, and automated reporting triggers. This isn\u2019t just about speed\u2014it\u2019s about traceability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4. Audit your own supply chain<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re buying tools from a shady vendor, you\u2019re the one who gets burned. Start asking tough questions early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Train your clients<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019re not just a service provider\u2014you\u2019re a strategic advisor.
