Men outnumber women by around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/cherylrobinson\/2024\/06\/18\/women-in-tech-stats-how-the-industry-can-provide-equal-opportunities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">three<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/cherylrobinson\/2024\/06\/18\/women-in-tech-stats-how-the-industry-can-provide-equal-opportunities\/\"> to one<\/a>, and that limits innovation, insight and growth. Things are changing, but too slowly. In fact, some predict it will take <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womentech.net\/women-in-tech-stats\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">130 years to close the economic gender gap<\/a> at the current rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At MSP GLOBAL, we are determined to be a part of the solution, but know we have a long way to go. Identifying and incentivizing a line-up of brilliant female speakers is one way we can help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, at this year\u2019s event, there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mspglobal.com\/agenda\/#\/talk?id=11598\">Carme Artigas<\/a>, who led the EU in creating the AI Act. There are female CEOs, CISOs and Chief Data Officers speaking, and a dedicated panel discussion on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mspglobal.com\/agenda\/#\/talk?id=10451\">Empowering Women in Tech<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the keynote line-up is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/demi-clinch-9ba07661\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Demi Clinch<\/a>, Head of Sales for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cybersentry.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">CyberSentry<\/a>. We asked Demi to share her experience and advice for everyone interested in creating a better, more equal sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size cfs-article-heading\" id=\"h-a-different-mindset\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600;line-height:1.3\">A different mindset<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI never went to school and university thinking I\u2019m going to be a woman in tech,\u201d says Demi. \u201cIt naturally happened for me. The whole technology space excited me because it\u2019s forever changing, ever growing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI started my first role in telecoms, and there weren\u2019t very many women within that industry at all. It\u2019s getting better, but it\u2019s still very much male-dominated.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even in her early career, Demi understood that there was strength in diversity. \u201cI was able to step in with a slightly different mindset to some of my peers, where I would look at tasks in a different way and analyse things slightly differently,\u201d she recalls. \u201cPeople would come to me and ask for my opinion because maybe I had a perspective that others in the room didn\u2019t see.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were plenty of obstacles to overcome along the way. \u201cSome of the challenges I faced were being sat in a meeting with a guy that\u2019s been in the industry for many more years than I have and maybe didn\u2019t want to listen,\u201d she says. This ties in with research from the Women In Tech organisation that found that 64% of women experienced being spoken over in meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her advice to other women entering the field is to have faith in themselves: \u201cSometimes you need to go into these situations quite boldly and be sure of yourself. Be confident in what you know and your abilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size cfs-article-heading\" id=\"h-building-confidence-and-community\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600;line-height:1.3\"><strong> Building confidence and community<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For Demi, progress is not about pretending that the industry isn\u2019t unbalanced, but about building strength within that reality. \u201cPeople naturally see tech as a male-dominated industry, and it is,\u201d she says. \u201cBut there are so many powerful women working their way through and becoming great leaders and role models in this space. It\u2019s getting better\u2014we just need to keep encouraging and accelerating that change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recruitment is a key part of progress. \u201cFor businesses looking to recruit more women, firstly there needs to be enough candidates coming through,\u201d she explains. \u201cI\u2019ve been involved in outreach to schools, colleges, and universities to empower young women to come into tech because it\u2019s huge, it\u2019s ever-growing, and we really need that diversity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demi has also invested her time in mentoring women new to tech, offering both encouragement and practical support. \u201cI\u2019ve been involved in schemes for women who are new to the industry, where we can really hold their hand and openly talk about our experiences and how we can keep pushing forward together,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That spirit of solidarity, she believes, is one of the most powerful resources available. \u201cThere\u2019s so much support with women supporting other women in the tech space. We know what challenges we\u2019ve come through to get to where we are. Everyone is there as a part of a community to make sure we all succeed\u2014because that\u2019s not just good for the individuals, it builds better, more successful businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size cfs-article-heading\" id=\"h-a-message-to-women-considering-msp-global\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:600;line-height:1.3\">A message to women considering MSP GLOBAL<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>For Demi, events like MSP GLOBAL are an opportunity to experience that community and hear voices that inspire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo any woman thinking about going to MSP GLOBAL\u2014absolutely do it,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a great event, and there are going to be so many female speakers there that will inspire us all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>At MSP GLOBAL, we hope that encouraging gender diversity on stage will help, in some way, to shift the balance and create visible role models.
